Job Description:

  • 1) Pours liquid or powdered insulating material into mold to form insulation for electric motor, generator, and switchgear mechanisms: Weighs specified amounts of plaster, cement, metallic, or plastic powders, dumps ingredients into mixing machine, and starts machine.

  • 2) Positions assemblies, such as contact arms, collector rings, rotor shaft coils, and core assemblies, into mold cavity or molding jig, using spacer blocks and pilot pins.

  • 3) Pours mixture into mold and allows mixture to set in hydraulic press or harden in furnace.

  • 4) Removes assembly from mold or jig and scrapes hardened insulation with knife and rasp to trim to specified size.

  • 5) Cuts, bends, shapes, and bolts together pieces of metal to adapt or improvise assembly fixtures to hold parts in mold.

  • 6) May touch leads to meter and observe dial readings to test assembly for electrical continuity.

  • 7) May be designated according to type of material used as Plaster-Of-Paris Molder or product insulated as Transformer Molder.
