Job Description:

• 1) Sets up and operates closed-die forging machine equipped with horizontal ram and gripping die to expand end of hot metal bar stock: Aligns and bolts specified dies and cams in machine, using rule, square, and wrenches.

• 2) Pulls stock from furnace when color indicates forging temperature and inserts stock in gripping die against stop gauge, using tongs or hoist.

• 3) Presses pedal to close gripping die on stock and to advance ram, squeezing end of metal into gripping die cavity.

• 4) Moves workpiece through series of dies to shape stock progressively to specifications.

• 5) Verifies dimensions of forged piece, using set gauges.

• 6) May set up and operate closed-die forging machine to expand end of cold metal.
