Job Description:

• 1) Seals storage battery cells in containers to form airtight and watertight battery: Loads thermostatically controlled kettle with chunks of compound.

• 2) Ignites burners and adjusts temperature controls to heat and melt compound.

• 3) Opens valve to drain compound into pot and empties compound into tank.

• 4) Holds hose attached to tank and presses lever to control flow of compound over cells.

• 5) Starts conveyor to move batteries through flamer or manipulates gas torch to melt and level off compound to produce seal.

• 6) Scrapes excess compound from container, using putty knife and cloth.

• 7) May clip posts, using handtool.

• 8) May stamp numbers on battery, using marking dies.

• 9) May install covers on cells.

• 10) May melt compound in hand-manipulated container and pour compound over cells.

• 11) May use heated dipper equipped with trigger mechanism to deposit sealing compound over cells.
