Job Description:
- 1) Sets up, and adjusts yarn-manufacturing and processing machines, using charts, oral instructions, and knowledge of machine operation: Changes and adjusts gears, pulleys, rollers, thermal units, false-twist spindles, and guides according to type of sliver or yarn processed, type of wind, draft, or number of twists per inch, using handtools.
- 2) Verifies adjustments, using gauges and instruments, such as voltage and calibrating machines, tensiometer, tachometer, and densimeter.
- 3) Patrols work area to detect operating defects.
- 4) Inspects machine to determine cause of faulty operation, utilizing report on defects, and adjusts machine.
- 5) Replaces worn and broken parts, such as spindles, rollers, guides, gears, pulleys, tape, and belts, using handtools.
- 6) Lubricates moving parts and wearing surfaces, using oilcan and grease gun.
- 7) Cleans machines, using airhose, cleaning solution, and rags.
- 8) May overhaul machines and plumb spindles, following plant schedule.
- 9) May erect new machines.
- 10) May be designated according to machines maintained as Card Fixer; Comber Fixer; Garnett Fixer; Gill-Box Fixer; Quiller-Machine Fixer; Spinning-Frame Fixer.
- 11) May be designated: Tufting-Machine Fixer; Twisting-Frame Fixer; Winder Fixer; Yarn-Texturing Machine Fixer.
