• 1) Tends steam-heated vats that extract gelatin from crushed bone: Turns valve to introduce steam that heats vat filled with crushed bone.

• 2) Adds water to vat and dumps in specified amounts of ingredients that hasten extraction of gelatin.

• 3) Drains vat and signals other workers to remove bone residue from vat.
