Job Description:

  • 1) Teaches students basic techniques and assists in development of manipulative skills in industrial arts courses in secondary schools: Prepares lesson plans for courses and establishes goals.

  • 2) Lectures, illustrates, and demonstrates when teaching use of handtools; machines, such as lathe, planer, power saws, and drill press; safety practices; precision measuring instruments, such as micrometer; and industrial arts techniques.

  • 3) Evaluates student progress.

  • 4) Talks with parents and counselor to resolve behavioral and academic problems.

  • 5) May teach shop math.

  • 6) May specialize in one or more areas, such as woodworking, metalworking, electricity, graphic arts, automobile repair, or drafting.

  • 7) May teach students with disabilities.

  • 8) May be required to have certification from state.
