Job Description:
- 1) Fabricates skis from wood, using handtools and powered machines: Cuts rough forms for skis, using electrically powered cutting machine.
- 2) Soaks ski forms in hot water until pliable and places them in bending frame for shaping.
- 3) Operates shaper to form ridges on top of ski.
- 4) Pairs skis according to size, weight, and grain of wood.
- 5) Sands skis and scrapes them with handtool to correct variations in thickness.
- 6) Operates shaper to form grooves on underside of ski according to type of ski, such as plain, racing, or jumping skis.
- 7) Finishes surface, using sandpaper.
- 8) May apply varnish or paint to finished ski.
